Official Project Proposal for 'Common Core Ontology'
Authorization to create a new Official IEEE Open Source Project
-
Title of the Project: Common Core Ontology
-
Description of the Project: Defines a mid-level ontology that specifies a set of well-defined terms and relations commonly used across multiple domains. It enables conforming extension ontologies to re-use these terms and introduce only the more specific terms and relations of their respective domains. See https://opensource.ieee.org/cco/CommonCoreOntologies

- Selection of a single Open Source approved license and associated CLAs (See the Maintainers Manual):
-
Will this project use pre-existing Open Source software or hardware? Yes. CUBRC will contribute a version of Common Core Ontology for further open source development by this project.
-
Supporting an IEEE Standards Project
- Yes. This project will be run by an IEEE Ontology Standards Working Group (OSWG), which has approved PAR P3195.1 (Common Core Ontology). OSWG also manages other related PARs, including P3195 (Requirements for a Mid-Level Ontology and Extensions) and P3195.1.1 (Cyber Ontology). [Note: Cyber Ontology has it's IEEE SA Open Source project, but P3195 is an overview document and does not have a corresponding open source project.]
