Mattermost Channel Archiving
Please help us improve our platform. Assume the reader knows very little about your situation when describing the feature, as our participants create many types of open projects: libraries, software, hardware, etc. A thorough explanation will help the people reviewing your request understand your perspective. Try to include answers to the following questions, as appropriate.
-
What problem are you trying to solve for the community? If a subgroup is disbanded, the Community Advisory Group recommends that we be able to archive its MM channel (no longer active, but still searchable.)
-
Why do you feel this is important for the community? Having this source of knowledge is important for continue maintaining access to our community knowledge base.
-
What are the consequences of not implementing this feature? Loss of access to shared knowledge.
-
Are you aware of any existing solutions that currently provide this functionality?
To do this, the config.json file would need to be modified as described in the MM documentation.
Also, in the system console the "Allow Users to View Archived Channels" will need to be set to true. This is a beta feature, that when set to true, allows users to view, share and search for content of channels that have been archived. Users can only view the content in channels of which they were a member before the channel was archived.
- What kind of tests/metrics would tell us we were successful? We can test-archive an existing but stale MM channel that may have been accidentally created in testing and then verify that users can still search any content
